Moonshot

The UK prime minister announced his ‘moonshot’ vision this week. The idea is to make mass testing for coronavirus available, with some results given in minutes. Presumably there’d be a follow-up plan for those who tested positive.

Do you ever shoot for the moon? I sometimes play a card game called Hearts, maybe you’ve heard of it? There’s a high-risk gambit you can try, where if you win all the penalty points in a round, the other players are penalised, not you.

The Christian story is the opposite in some ways. Jesus takes all the penalty points, all our mistakes in other words, and clears the deck for us. He pays the penalty himself.

Jesus makes the way clear for us so we can aim for way beyond the moon.

In fact, with Jesus, we can shoot for the stars.
